New Zealand has always been our dream destination, and with the inauguration of AirasiaX flight to Christchurch * Due to Airasia flight route restructuring, this flight is no longer in operation *, we knew it was a perfect opportunity to go New Zealand.
We have travelled with Airasia on several occasions and IMHO, they are one of the best budget airlines around. We were pretty skeptical about flying long haul on a budget airline, however the numerous positive reviews on the internet reassured us. We were pleasantly surprise to find out the flight was on a A330, which was larger than their normal aircraft. The 10 hours flight was comfortable and we slept well, the service was as good as other major airlines.
As we had only 8 days, our travel itinerary was pretty tight. We decided to focus this trip on the south island and leave the north island for future visit. We did our planning and research with the help of the Lonely Planet New Zealand Guide, which was really good and informative considering how expensive it is to travel in New Zealand.
After several days of decisions making, our itinerary was as followed:
Fly in Christchurch -> Fly in Queenstown -> Wanaka -> Lake Tekapo -> Fly back home
As we had limited time, we spent only 1 day in Christchurch to recover from our long flight and flew in to Queenstown the next morning on Jetstar.
